Choosing a Pre-Prep is about so much more than choosing a school for the next few years. It is about the beginning your child carries with them into everything that follows.
These early years matter deeply. Children are learning to read, write, count and communicate, but they are also forming their first beliefs about themselves as learners. They are discovering what school feels like: whether they feel safe, known and understood; whether they have the confidence to try, to make mistakes, to keep going and to succeed.
That is why getting the beginning right matters so much.
As Founding Head of Prep, my first responsibility is to make sure our youngest children have the right start: one that is secure, joyful, ambitious and full of care. I want children to feel that they belong here from the very beginning, and I want parents to feel confident that their child is understood, supported and stretched in the right way.
Our Pre-Prep is built on warmth and purpose. Children are known, cared for and taught in a way that is thoughtful, consistent and ambitious. They learn through clear teaching, strong routines, rich language, practical experience and purposeful play. We think carefully about what children need to learn, how they learn best, and how we help them grow in confidence over time.
Play has an important place here, but it is never simply filling time. It is where children practise language, solve problems, test ideas, build friendships and begin to make sense of the world. Alongside this, children experience a broad and balanced education, with music, movement, creativity, performance, outdoor learning and specialist teaching all playing their part.
I care deeply about balance. If learning is too easy, children do not grow. If it feels too hard, they can lose confidence. Our aim is to get that balance right: high expectations, strong support, and a school day that helps children grow in confidence, curiosity and independence while still feeling happy, secure and full of possibility.
When you walk into The King’s School Canterbury, Bengaluru Pre-Prep, I want you to feel it straight away: warmth, purpose and a real sense of possibility. Children are thinking hard, speaking confidently, listening carefully, exploring ideas and enjoying school. Around them are adults who know them well, who understand when to guide, when to encourage, and when to step back so that independence can grow.
This is what a King’s beginning feels like: academically strong, deeply caring, rich in opportunity and rooted in the belief that every child should be known, valued and able to flourish.
Most of all, children leave Pre-Prep with more than readiness for the next stage. They leave with secure foundations, strong habits, real confidence, kindness, curiosity and a genuine love of learning.
The best beginning does not simply prepare children for school. It helps shape who they become.
I look forward to welcoming you and your child to The King’s School Canterbury, Bengaluru.
