Getting to Know Your Child

Families will be invited to come in and meet the Head of Admissions and Founding Head of Prep, Leigh Holmes-Hill, for a relaxed and age-appropriate admissions one to one interaction.

For younger children, this is an informal opportunity for us to get to know your child in a welcoming Early Years environment. Through play, conversation, and carefully selected activities, we observe how children engage with others, explore new experiences, and approach learning. There is no formal testing, and parents are welcome to remain present throughout.

Depending on the age of the child, the interaction may include:

  • Play-based and age-appropriate learning activities
  • Informal literacy and numeracy task
  • Conversation with the child, where appropriate
  • Observation of communication, curiosity, independence, and social interaction
  • Consideration of broader learning behaviours and developmental readiness for school

The purpose of this meeting is not to assess performance, but to help us understand how best to support your child and to ensure that King's Canterbury can provide an environment in which they will flourish.
